These are my observations based on what I have used.įirst of all the Sebenza opens smoothly everytime, even when it's dirty, due to the bushings between the handle scales and the blade. I have owned several of the Pardue designed benchmades and an HK auto, I have owned a Spyerco Military, Delica and one of the Rescue series. I am not a knife expert, but but my father and grandfather were collectors and I have always loved knives. Let me say that I obviously haven't owned everything in both the Spyderco and Benchmade line. Benchmade and Spyderco make great knives, but they simply don't have the no-nonsense ruggedness of a Sebenza, IMO. I have NEVER had a Spyderco perform as well as the Chris Reeve. I have owned at one time or another several Benchmades, Spydercos, CRKTs and other mainstream knives. Every piece of gear I own is used and I am very critical of overmarketed products that don't measure up. I am not disagreeing because i spent $400 on my knife and need to feel justified. Now I have to disagree completely with thought of these knives being overpriced or overrated. All this considered, I felt completely justified in what I spent. A knife of this quality should last my lifetime and I hope to, one day, give it to my son. I carry this knife everyday, use it everyday and I might have to depend on this tool to save my life or someone else's. Relative to my income it cost me roughly half a weeks pay $400. It's not a Strider but it's in the same price range. I have a small Chris Reeve Sebenza classic with micarta inlay. Let's keep it civil and not undermine a thread where there is great potential to discussion. IMHO knives are a great hobby - you can afford one of the best for much less than other hobbies! I can understand that not everyone wants a, or feels they can afford a, but I find it hard to say that offers the same thing for less. But is there a knife that offers the exact set of compromises (every knife is a compromise) that the Sebenza does for less? I haven't found one yet! If those compromises suit your goals in a pocket knife then the Sebenza will be well worth it to you! Are there knives that cut better, open faster and feel better in the hands? Sure. The Sebenza is a tough, stout little folder with excellent cutting performance, is chamfered all around for comfort and is equally at home in a casual or dress environment.Īre there other knives that are as tough, or tougher for less? Sure. That is not to say it is the only knife I ever use, because there are other, cheaper knives that I like a lot as well but in my mind it fits my exact need for a knife, ignoring price. The Sebenza is the closest I have ever gotten to the perfect EDC and to me that makes it worth the $330 I paid for it. Of course there are other knives that cost less than a Sebenza or even Strider that will perform similarly but if you want a knife "just like" the Sebenza you have to be willing to pay for it, because there's nothing quite like it.
